Summary of knowledge on wires and cables

01 Meaning of symbols such as BV and BLV in wires and cables

These symbols are some models of wires. The B series belongs to the category of wiring, so it starts with B. Voltage: 300/500V. Wires are divided into electromagnetic wires and general insulated wires according to their uses. Insulated wire is also known as laid wire.

Insulated wire (cloth wire) refers to a wire covered with an insulation layer, including various connecting wires and installation wires.

V is PVC, which is plastic

L is the code for aluminum core

T is the code for the copper core (usually omitted and not written)

R means (soft), to achieve softness, it means increasing the number of conductors

BV copper core PVC insulated wire

BLV aluminum core PVC insulated wire

BVR copper core PVC insulated flexible wire

The above wire structure: conductor+insulation

Taking 2.5mm2 as an example:

BV is available in two types: one with a diameter of 1.78mm and seven with a diameter of 0.68

BLV has a diameter of 1.78mm

BVR consists of 19 pieces with a diameter of 0.41mm

RV copper core PVC insulated connection flexible wire

It is softer than BVR, or is 2.5 made of 49 0.25mm copper wires

RVV copper core PVC insulated PVC sheathed flexible wire connection

An extra layer of plastic sheath compared to RV

Additionally, our commonly used 'sheathed wire'

BVVB copper core PVC insulated PVC sheathed flat cable, consisting of 2 BV wires with a white sheath on top

02 What is a sheathed wire

Sheathed wire refers to a single core or multi-core wire with a sheath layer, and those with a sheath are safer. To put it simply, the commonly used "sheathed wire" is a layer of white polyvinyl chloride sheath with several BV wires inside. This type of wire is usually a copper core wire, which has an insulation layer and a protective layer on the outside of the wire. The commonly used sheathed wires include RVV, BVV, RVVB, and BVVB models. Sheath wires can be divided into two types: hard sheathed wires and soft sheathed wires. According to the application environment and shape, it is divided into round sheathed wire and flat sheathed wire. Round sheathed wire is generally multi-core, while flat sheathed wire is generally single core.

[General rated voltage] (U0/U) 0.6/1-26/35kv

[Usage Characteristics]

The rated temperature of the cable conductor is 90 ° C, and during a short circuit (lasting no more than 5 seconds), the temperature of the cable conductor does not exceed 250 ° C.

The ambient temperature during cable laying should not be lower than 0 ° C

3. Allowable bending radius during laying: Single core cables shall not be less than 15 times the outer diameter of the cable; Multi core cables shall not be less than 10 times the outer diameter of the cable.

What is 04YC cable

YC rubber sheathed cable, also known as heavy-duty universal rubber sheathed flexible cable, is a type of rubber sheathed wire. YC cables are suitable for household appliances, power tools, various mobile electrical equipment or lightweight mobile electrical equipment with AC rated voltage below 450/750V, or for temporary construction on construction sites, and can withstand significant mechanical external forces. The long-term allowable working temperature of the wire core should not exceed 60 ℃.

Y rubber insulation, C heavy-duty cable. The sheath inside is also rubber insulated, and the conductor is copper wire. Rubber sheathed cables are divided into heavy-duty cables (yc cables), medium-sized cables (yz cables), and lightweight cables (YQ cables). The insulation layer of good YC cables is made of rubber, and the conductor is made of oxygen free copper rods with good conductivity. However, most products in the current market cannot achieve this quality to some extent.

YC cable model:

YC cables are mainly multi-core cables, with commonly used ones being 2-core, 3-core, 4-core, and 5-core. The area of the copper core ranges from 0.75 to several tens of square meters.

05 BV Wire and Cable Knowledge

BV cable: It is a copper core polyvinyl chloride insulated wire and cable, abbreviated as plastic copper wire. It is a commonly used wire in wire and cable, and also a type of wire that we come into contact with frequently in our daily lives.

Conductor material: oxygen free copper

Insulation material: PVC

Colors: Black, Yellow, Blue, Red, Brown, White, etc

Working temperature: 60 degrees, 70 degrees, 95 degrees

Rated voltage: 450/750V

When laying cables (wires), the ambient temperature should not be lower than minus 15 degrees Celsius.

Allowable bending radius of cable:

Cable outer diameter (D) less than 25mm shall not be less than 4D;

For cables with an outer diameter (D) of 25mm or more, it should not be less than 6D.

Finished cables (wires) and cable cores must undergo a power frequency spark withstand voltage test.

The marking of cables (wires) must be carried out in accordance with the GB6995 standard, and the marking should be clear and scratch resistant.

National standard BV wires and cables are used for electrical devices, instruments, decoration, telecommunications equipment, power lighting, and circuits with AC rated voltage of 450/750V or below or DC voltage of 1000V or below, and can be installed openly or covertly.

Product standard: GB5023.3-1997JB8734-98 complies with the IECCCC standard, and the national standard BV cable production certificate must be printed with the 3C certification mark.
